About
Soren Allen is a freelance composer living and working in Nashville, Tennessee. He specializes in wind chamber music, but also has experience writing for larger instrumental ensembles and vocal groups. Some of Soren's music is published with Catholic Instrumental Resources, and he plays trombone with the Lakes Brass Quintet.
Soren was involved with music from a very young age, beginning piano lessons at age four and beginning trombone at nine, which he played in the concert band and jazz band throughout middle school. He took on leadership roles in marching band at Johns Creek High School in Johns Creek, Georgia where he played trombone, baritone horn, and French horn. Soren performed with JCHS's symphony orchestra, the Fulton County Honor Band, the District V Honor Band, and placed first chair trombone in the 2017 GMEA All-State Symphonic Band. He also performed in the pit orchestra for the middle school's and high school's musical theater productions and helped found JCHS's Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter.
Soren also was a student at Christian Youth Theater's Atlanta chapter for eleven years, playing roles such as Rooster Hannigan in Annie and Professor Porter in Tarzan. He returned to CYT Atlanta after graduating high school to direct music for Beauty and the Beast, Madagascar, and Aladdin. Most recently, he worked with CYT's Nashville chapter directing music for The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical and teaching weekly songwriting courses.
Soren earned his Bachelor of Music degree with Honors in Music Composition and Music Theory from Belmont University, where he studied composition under Dr. Mark Volker and Dr. Antonio Moreira and studied trombone under Dr. Jeffrey Phillips. At Belmont, Soren performed in the university's wind ensemble, symphony orchestra, jazz band, and Bruin Blast Pep Band, and he performed on three Christmas at Belmont productions. Soren also studied composition for a year at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro under Dr. Mark Engebretson and Dr. Alejandro Rutty.
Soren was initiated into the Omicron Rho (OP) chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity in 2017. Soren served as OP's chapter secretary and president during his collegiate experience, and was elected as Province 15's Collegiate Province Representative, representing Middle and West Tennessee and Western Kentucky. In 2018, Soren represented OP at the Fraternity's 56th National Convention in New Orleans, LA and, in 2022, attended the 57th National Convention in St. Louis, MO as an alumnus.
Soren's interests outside of music include being outdoors with his fiancée Lauren, with whom he frequently travels across the United States visiting the country's numerous National Park sites. He also enjoys studying linguistics; he has constructed three fictional languages, including Kjemju, which is used in Kehei, and Zaikoge, which is referenced in Zodo 'Átifei. Soren and Lauren enjoy playing Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop role-playing games - Soren is a part-time Dungeon Master for an ongoing campaign.
